UFC chief Dana White was able to arrange a fight in one call Islam Makhacheva and Alexander Volkanovski, reports ESPN.
Earlier it became known that Australian fighter Alexander Volkanovski will replace Charles Oliveira and become the opponent of Russian Islam Makhachev at UFC 294. It was expected that Makhachev and Oliveira will fight again for the lightweight belt of the UFC during a tournament in Abu Dhabi on October 21. Makhachev’s opponent will now be Alexander Volkanovski.
– A call. That’s how we do it, brother. One fight fails and we end up doing another one, which is one of the most anticipated rematches of all time in this weight class,” White said, as quoted by ESPN.
Makhachev and Volkanovski previously fought at UFC 284 in February 2023; this fight ended with the victory of Islam by unanimous decision.
