The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has named Russian Bakhram Murtazaliev as mandatory challenger for the junior middleweight championship belt, reports Boxing Scene .
The IBF junior middleweight belt is held by American Jermell Charlo, who also holds the WBC and WBA belts. The American was also a WBO champion, but lost the title when he refused to fight Tim Tszyu for a meeting with Saul Alvarez. On October 1, Charlo lost to the Mexican by unanimous decision in a super middleweight fight.
The IBF asked Charlo to confirm his return to junior middleweight by Wednesday this week, then booked a fight against Murtazaliev. The parties were given 30 days to negotiate.
Murtazaliev is 30 years old and occupies the first place in the IBF junior middleweight rankings. The undefeated Russian has 21 victories, 15 of them ahead of schedule. Charlo, 33, has 35 wins, two losses and one fight ended in a draw.
