UFC head Dana White said that the winner of the Chimaev-Usman fight will become a contender for the UFC title. Khamzat Chimaev’s opponent at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi will be former UFC welterweight champion, Nigerian Kamaru Usman. Initially, Chimaev was supposed to meet Paulo Costa, but the Brazilian withdrew from the fight due to elbow surgery.
On September 10, Strickland defeated Adesanya by unanimous decision to win the UFC middleweight belt. If he beats Usman, Chimaev’s next opponent will be Strickland.
