UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev reported that Khabib Nurmagomedova will not be on his side for the fight with the Australian Alex Volkanovski as he is busy working with other fighters.
The title fight will take place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi at UFC 294. Volkanovski replaced Brazilian Charles Oliveira, who received a serious cut on his eyebrow and withdrew from the fight.
-Is there any reason Khabib won’t be around during your fight?
“He has already said before that he does not divide us into ordinary fighters and champions. If he takes a second, he helps everyone, whether in Dubai or Australia. We understand that. Khabib has 30-35 fighters, all of them are equal (in importance) to him.
I can only say thank you to him for participating in my camp. Without Khabib, everything would have been different,” the Russian said in an interview with journalist Aaron Bronsteter.
Makhachev has already met Volkanovski. At UFC 284 in February 2023, he won by unanimous decision.
