Khabib Nurmagomedov became a legend of UFCand everyone remembers the Russian as one of the greatest in MMA history. Even during his nomination for the Ultimate Hall of Fame, the former champion made it clear that he was only able to reach his peak due to his father.
According to Khabib, he grew up in a small village and had a rough start in life. Things started to change when the family moved to Makhachkala. There he began to develop his skills in MMA. “I grew up in a very small village with a very poor life. My father brought us from the village, sold our house and took me, my brother, my cousins - there were almost 15 people – to the capital, Makhachkala. He rented a really big house and we were all living together. We all ate together. We went to school, came back, trained and went home. It was just my dad, trying to invest everything we had“, he stated.

He gave us a good education, good opportunities to learn in good schools, universities. All his life he was investing in people. This is a very big motivation for me. The achievements in the UFC transformed the life of Khabib Nurmagomedov, but some lessons learned have changed the former fighter’s mind in the last two years!
“Today I can do whatever I want in the world. I can buy any house in the world, and that gives me good energy. But this is not who I am. That’s not what my father taught me. I am very happy because I remember that ten years ago my mind was completely different. ‘Oh, I’m going to be champion. I’ll get rich and buy everything.’ But everything that happened in the last two years changed my mind and changed the way I thought. It was July 3, 2020, almost two years ago. My father hasn’t been with me for two years. It’s very difficult to be here and talk about him. It’s very exciting for me“, highlighted the fighter.
Khabib even ended his speech with a story that made him change his mind about everything: “I remember when I asked him when I was very young, maybe six or seven years old, and it was a lesson for my whole life – I asked him for money. He said ‘OK, I’ll give you money, but you have to earn it. Do you think I’ll give you everything you want? No, you have to earn it.’ it was a great lesson“.
