USADA, anti-doping agency, leaves UFC and athletes react

USADA, the United States Anti-Doping Agency, announced that it will no longer have ties with the UFC from 2024 and caused a huge repercussion among athletes in the sport.

Last Wednesday, the 11th, the United States Anti-Doping Agencypopularly known as USEDannounced that it will not renew the contract with the UFC. Therefore, from January 1, 2024, the organization will no longer be responsible for the company’s doping control tests.

After the announcement, several athletes, retired and active, reacted to the announcement and made their comments about this new phase without USADA in the UFC. With a mix of good humor and acidity, the fighters used the moment to criticize the organization’s performance and also took the opportunity to provoke, especially towards their possible opponents next season.

“You guys are about to start seeing some super athletes haha”he said Demetrious Johnson, former UFC champion, on his official Twitter account. Currently, the fighter is competing in the ONE Championshipwhich does not have an external body to control doping in its fights, as will happen with the UFC.

Gilbert DurinhoBrazilian fighter, took advantage of the moment to provoke Conor McGregor, who was one of the main responsible for the discord created between USADA and the UFC in recent years. Publishing two photos of the Irishman, the athlete did a “before and after”, showing his rival thinner in the first image, compared to the heavier former champion in the sequence.

Ben Davis, an MMA commentator, posted a meme on his social media to raise awareness about the issue. In his publication, the North American insinuated that USADA’s departure will help Jon Jones to maintain his physical shape, as the fighter faced several problems related to doping during the partnership between the organization and the UFC.
