Athletistic/Boxing. Alexander Povetkin, the former heavyweight champion of the world, has responded to criticism that heaped on him due to his comments about UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

In a conversation with the Ushataika channel, Povetkin said: “Let them say whatever they want. Honestly, I don’t like to look for excuses. I said what I said. I have a lot of ‘Russian friends who practice martial arts, and when they asked me about Makhachev,’ I replied. I know he exists, but I haven’t followed his career. I just have no interest, but some people throw out all sorts of meaningless arguments.”

“I have different friends – Chechens, Azerbaijanis, Dagestanis, with whom I trained together. We always communicate. But people begin to spin everything as they please, but I don’t pay attention to it. I I don’t care,” he added.

Povetkin has previously clarified that he follows UFC fighters such as Alexander Volkov and Sergei Pavlovich, but that he does not follow Islam Makhachev because he is not a Russian fighter.
