“Winning a world title is not comparable to what my father did” – Tim Tszyu

WBO junior middleweight world champion Tim Tszyu said he has yet to achieve the greatness in boxing that his father achieved.

On Sunday in Sydney, Tszyu defeated American Brian Mendoza by unanimous decision to defend his WBO junior middleweight title for the first time. Timofey Tszyu is the son of the former absolute junior welterweight champion Konstantina Tszyu .

“I don’t feel like I’ve reached the pinnacle in the sport yet.” That would be disrespectful to immortal fighters. I am realistic. The fact that I won a world title cannot be compared to what my father did.

He was a three-time world champion for 10 years. No other person has done this. Him and Jeff Fenech – the two at the top, for me that’s immortality. “I have a long way to go, but I am on the path to immortality,” Tim Tszyu was quoted as saying by The Age.

The 28-year-old boxer has 24 victories in the professional ring (17 by KO). Tim Tszyu has spent all but one of his fights in Australia. For Mendoza, 29, this defeat is the third of his career; he also has 22 victories (16 by KO).
