President of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev thanked members of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) for their decision not to move to World Boxing and remain under the auspices of the IBA.
The ASBC decided to remain a member of the IBA at an extraordinary congress in Bangkok. 31 countries voted to remain under the auspices of the IBA, 3 to move to World Boxing and 1 other abstained.
In June, the IOC Executive Committee recommended to the organization’s session that it withdraw recognition of the IBA because the association had not fulfilled the conditions necessary for its reinstatement proposed by the IOC. The decision was approved by majority on Thursday. Previously, an alternative organization to the IBA, World Boxing, was created, which some countries have already joined.
“I welcome the decision of the ASBC delegates to continue to be part of the IBA family.” In this crucial time, we must be united and strong to overcome all challenges, this has been demonstrated by the majority of votes here. The loyalty of the Asian continent is invaluable for IBA and suggests a promising future.
As we grow in Asia, I am grateful to each country that has chosen to continue working with the IBA for the benefit of our boxers and coaches. It remains clear that the IBA is at the forefront of the development and promotion of boxing, without being subject to any external influence or fraudulent organizations, Kremlev said on the official IBA website.
