The Ukrainian should wait a few months before Devin Haney decides what he will do with his title
Promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that he intends to promote the holder of the WBO International lightweight title Denis Berinchik to receive the status of a mandatory contender for the world champion belt.
“I am present at the WBO Congress more because of Berinchyk than because of Usyk. This is already a small anniversary for me. Because for the fifth year in a row I have represented Berinchik here and recommend him for the position of mandatory candidate. I asked the WBO President to nominate him for the mandatory challenger position, as a fighter who has been waiting his turn for a very long time. He has defended his international title nine times already.”
“Devin Haney rose, but did not vacate his title. After the Prograis fight in December, he will likely be given a period during which he will have to decide what to do next. We need to wait a few months for this fight to happen. Then, with God’s help, we nominate Denis for the position of mandatory contender.”
Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney will fight for the WBC junior welterweight title against Regis Prograis on December 9. Haney relinquished his belts but retained the option to return to the division at a later date.
Berinchyk had his last fight in August on the undercard of the Oleksandr Usyk-Daniel Dubois fight. The Ukrainian defeated Swede Anthony Yigit by unanimous decision and defended his WBO International title.
