Most tested athlete of the year by the entity in 2023, Paulo Borrachinha spoke of “persecution” and revealed anxiety about USADA exams
Paulo Borrachinha opened up about the departure of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) from the UFC. The Brazilian fighter, the athlete most tested by the anti-doping entity in 2023, did not show any discomfort with the non-renewal of his contract.
In a post on the social network X, formerly Twitter, the middleweight complained about Usada’s methods and said he suffered from anxiety because of it. Borrachinha pointed out “persecution” by the entity. In another publication, he said that he received four collectors in the same week, to carry out seven tests.
“I hate the way Usada pursues me. Sometimes in hard training camps, I would often have anxiety before going to sleep because I would be woken up at 4am to urinate and have my blood drawn. I could only sleep after breaking my diet and I would sleep three hours later, missing out on quality sleep and my morning workout,” wrote the Brazilian fighter.

Paulo Borrachinha is one of the most tested athletes in the history of the UFC anti-doping program, with 135 tests in seven years. In 2023 alone, 33 tests were carried out, which places it as leader of the ranking, according to “AG. Fight.”
He was never caught for using prohibited substances. However, in 2019, he was suspended for six months for using intravenous fluid without prior request for an exemption for therapeutic use.
Exit from Used
The anti-doping organization announced its departure from the UFC last week, claiming that it will not renew the contract that ends on December 31st of this year. Drug Free Sport will occupy the program from 2024.
