Olympic judo champion Khasan Khalmurzaev said he accepted a temporary suspension from competition, emphasizing that for him there are things in life that are more important than sport.
Last week, Khalmurzaev was temporarily suspended from competition due to a violation of the Russian Judo Federation’s internal rules. This decision was taken in response to the athlete’s publications on social networks.
— Praise be to the Almighty for the many wonderful days of my life and sports career. But sometimes there come times when you have to make difficult decisions.
Recently a decision was made about my temporary suspension, as everyone knew, even though I was preparing for the international departure in Abu Dhabi and there were still many goals and tasks this year. But whatever the difficulties of life, I accept them. For the moment, I have not risked the team, but my position remains unchanged. For me, there are things that are more important than sport and everything else.
I would like to thank everyone who supported me for their kind words and support extended to me. Thank you all,” Khalmurzaev wrote on the social network.
Khalmurzaev won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the weight category up to 81 kg. He also achieved victories at the European Championships and the Universiade, as well as bronze at the World Championships.
