Jones, the UFC’s pound-for-pound best fighter, advised Makhachev to talk less and try to break his records

The best fighter in the UFC ranking regardless of weight categories, champion of the heavy division John Jones called the Russian Islam Makhacheva beat your records rather than engaging in negative talk.

Earlier, Makhachev said he had stopped following UFC rankings, criticizing Jones for poor opposition in recent fights. The Russian believes that the American unfairly takes his place in the ranking. Jon Jones defended the UFC light heavyweight title eight times before moving up to heavyweight, where he won the championship belt in March 2023 by defeating Frenchman Cyril Hahn.

– As for the battle, may the strongest win. I was just talking about life. Islam has recently made some negative comments. I don’t need to answer negatively.

I have bigger fish to fry now. I want to encourage young fighters to break some of my records instead of opening their mouths. It will be like a gangster,” Jones wrote on a social network.

On October 21 in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Makhachev will defend his UFC lightweight title against Australian Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294.

The first meeting between the fighters took place at UFC 284 in February and ended with Makhachev’s victory by unanimous decision.

Watch the live broadcast of the UFC 294 tournament on October 21 on the channel from 9:00 p.m. Moscow time.
