The Australian government has fast-tracked citizenship for three athletes, including Russian wrestler Georgiy Okorokov, to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, The Guardian reports.

According to the source, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) supported the fast-track citizenship of Okorokov, as well as South African canoeist Pierre Van der Westhuizen and American water polo player Sam Slobodien.

“His talent has been recognized by Wrestling Australia and he is part of their highly professional team and helps develop local Australian wrestlers,” AOC said in a statement.

Okorokov is 26 years old, he is a European junior champion and has lived in Australia since 2017. Under the Australian flag, the wrestler took 10th place at the 2022 World Championships.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
