The promoter believes that the Ukrainian will need more time to get into shape
Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that the world heavyweight champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO Alexander Usik will not have time to prepare for the fight with the WBC belt holder Tyson Fury by December 23. Earlier, the Ukrainian said that he would need 14 weeks to prepare for the fight.
“He said this in Ukrainian. But I think overall Usyk said he needed a 14-week training camp. And I agree with this. I don’t think he’s physically ready to fight on December 23rd. I know he had some minor problems after the Dubois fight. But there is a huge amount of money at stake. “I believe that if they tell him that the fight will take place on this date, he will fight.”
“I think Fury will end up doing an 18-week training camp preparing for Ngannou and Usyk. This is not an ideal situation for him. But who knows if they are saying December 23rd is a possible date or if the fight will take place on that date. We’ll find out next Saturday.”
Usyk signed a contract with Fury to fight for the title of absolute world champion. The fight is planned to take place on December 23 or January 2024 in Saudi Arabia.
It is planned that the exact date of the event will be announced after the fight of the “Gypsy King” with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou. Fury’s fight will take place on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.
