After retaining the lightweight belt, Makhachev planned a rematch with Charles Do Bronx; Russian knocked out Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294
Islam Makhachev remains the UFC lightweight champion. This Saturday, 21st, the Russian knocked out Alexander Volkanovski still in the first round of the main fight of UFC 294, in Abu Dhabi (UAE), and retained the category belt.
After the fight, Makhachev continued to provoke Charles do Bronx. The Brazilian would be the Russian’s opponent, but an injury left him out of the fight for the belt. The lightweight champion now wants a “qualifier” between Charles and Justin Gaethje to meet your next opponent.

“It’s not my job, it’s Dana’s. He has to work on it, I’ll sign the contract, just send me your name. In my opinion, I feel like I have two opponents. Charles, then I beat him and who’s next, Gaethje anyway? I don’t think it’s a good idea, but that’s okay. It doesn’t matter, either one I’ll be ready,” provoked the Russian.
It will be no different (a rematch with Charles), I will show him, I will make him feel difficult, he will give up and I will choke him or submit him”, completed.
However, Dana White highlighted that he should give the Brazilian a chance, who was cut from the fight a few days before. Charles lost to the Russian at UFC 280, in October last year, in the lightweight title fight.

“You have to give Oliveira (the chance). He was ready, unfortunately he suffered a cut. I think we’ll give it to Oliveira, but again… these are questions I can’t answer right now. When we get back home we’ll see what’s next for everyone”, said the agent.
