Athletistic/MMA. The UFC press service has removed Russian mixed martial arts fighter Islam Makhachev’s comments in support of Palestine from its social networks. The 31-year-old Russian delivered a fiery speech after beating Australian Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
“I am not celebrating this victory because of the events currently happening in the world. Palestine, we are with you. Gaza Strip, we are with you. Stop it! Stop it!” — said Makhachev in a flash interview in the Octagon immediately after the fight.
Islam Makhachev finished the fight with Volkanovski in the first round by knocking out the Australian. Note that their fight in Abu Dhabi was a rematch. The first fight, which took place in February 2023 in Perth (Australia), lasted five rounds and ended in a victory for the Russian by unanimous decision.
Makhachev has 26 wins and one loss during his MMA career. He is the current lightweight champion of the promotion.
