Paulo Borrachinha regrets leaving UFC 294: “Easy money”

Out of UFC 294 due to an elbow injury, Brazilian Paulo Borrachinha spoke about the fight between Chimaev and Kamaru Usman, and criticized his former opponent

The co-main fight of UFC 294, which took place last Saturday, the 21st, featured Khamzat Chimaev winning Kamaru Usman. Despite this, the Brazilian Paulo Borrachinha is who would be fighting if it weren’t for an elbow injury, which caused the Nigerian to enter the fight at the last minute. Present at the event anyway, Borrachinha criticized his former opponent’s performance.

I was a little sadder than before because I thought I could have ended this son of a bitch easily. Easy money. It’s easy money. He’s very green, he’s an immature fighter. He put all his energy into the first round. If he can’t finish the guy, he’s finished. I believe that if Usman had had a few more weeks of training, two weeks of camp, he would have won. In fact I believe he at least tied“, he said in an interview with “MMA Junkie”.

Afterwards, Borrachinha was asked what he thinks about the possibility of Chimaev winning the title shot, in a fight that would take place against the current champion, Sean Strickland. Showing that he does not agree with the fight if that happens, the Brazilian explained his point of view, and guaranteed that the Russian would be defeated in a fight against him.

Either way, I think Khamzat has to fight a real middleweight to get a title shot. Does he go straight to the title? He hasn’t fought a middleweight yet. Why? It makes no sense to me. Conor (McGregor) posted this and I reposted it. I am here. Why not? This is the fight the public wants to watch. He needs to fight a real middleweight before going for the title shot. He’s not a champion or a top three welterweight. When a guy is champion at 77 kg and moves up to 84 kg, and fights for the title, ok, he has a point. But you are nothing at 77 kg. Why are you going for the title shot if you haven’t fought a real middleweight? I’m here, I can fight in December. But I think that, after this horrible fight, Chimaev will need more time to try to improve to face a guy like me. If he appears, he will be easily defeated. Easy money“, he added.

In addition to the fight in question, UFC 294 also held great emotions such as the knockout of Islam Makhachev in Alexander Volkanovski in the main fight. Before that, the Brazilian Johnny Walker ended up drawing with the Russian Ankalaevafter suffering an illegal knee, and the event doctor declaring it over.
