MMA fighter Azamat Dugulubgov, who trained Khamzata Chimaeva preparing for a fight with Kamaru Usman spoke about the consequences of a broken arm received during a duel.
Chimaev won the UFC 294 tournament in Abu Dhabi on October 21 and increased his statistics to 13 victories in 13 fights. The fighter representing the UAE competes in the middleweight and welterweight divisions; in the fight with Usman, the opponents fought in the weight category up to 84 kg. After convincingly winning the first round, Chimaev fought through two tough five minutes, earning the victory by decision.
“Everything had to change when Khamzat broke his hand in the first round. A lot of things happened immediately from that. I myself had my first fight in the WSOF league, when I broke my hand in the first round and had to change tactics and adapt to a new mindset. And I roughly understand what Khamzat was going through. As a man, he was able to control himself and redirect his fighting style in a different direction. He slowly recovered and fought well.
-How did you realize your arm was broken? Did he come around the corner and tell you straight?
“The fighter himself understands that something is wrong as the round progresses. We around here don’t know that. And Khamzat extremely rarely shows that he is in pain. He just has a huge threshold in that sense. And during the break we started to explain some combinations to him, but he shook his hand and didn’t say anything. Then we realized something was wrong. And we had to use weapons from the arsenal, which we were preparing precisely in case of injury or problems in combat,” Dugulubgov told .
