Fury: I don’t care about the undisputed title, I just want to beat Usyk

The “Gypsy King” said he might only be interested in the Central British title

WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury said that he is only interested in winning the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO belt holder Alexander Usikeven if the title of absolute world champion is not at stake in their fight.

“Nothing changed. I still don’t care about the title of absolute champion. It doesn’t mean shit to me. I’ve always said that the title doesn’t mean anything to me. For me, winning a fight has real weight. If they tell me: “You can become the absolute champion and win all the belts, but not win, or not be the absolute champion, but defeat Usik in a fight for half a belt,” then I will choose the second option.”

“For me, the main thing is to win, to get the better of my opponent in battle, that’s all. Going back to the Klitschko days and before, this was never my dream. The title of absolute champion means nothing to me. Maybe it matters to Lennox Lewis or Anthony Joshua or whoever, but I never gave a damn about it.”

“The only thing I didn’t win in boxing was the central British title. And I aim to take it at some point. I hope I have a chance. Whoever holds this title, I am coming for you.”

Fury will next fight with former UFC world champion Francis Ngannou. The 10-round fight between “The Gypsy King” and Ngannou will take place on October 28 in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The WBC granted Tyson special permission to fight the former UFC champion.

It is expected that immediately after this fight the final date for the unification fight between Fury and WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO belt holder Alexander Usyk will be confirmed. The “Gypsy King” himself expects that his meeting in the ring with the Ukrainian will take place in December 2023.
