Mixed martial arts fighter Alexander Shlemenko considers the principle of forming the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) ranking outside of weight categories to be incorrect.
Russian Islam Makhachev, after defending the UFC lightweight title in a fight with Australian Alexander Volkanovski, rose to second place in the lightweight rankings, led by American heavyweight Jon Jones.
— To be honest, I usually try not to think about the different notes. When were they right? In my opinion, the UFC creates them to solve some of its own problems. Yes, Makhachev beat the holder of the featherweight belt twice in a row, but besides, the very principle of forming a ranking, regardless of categories, is biased and unfair. How does a lightweight compare to heavyweight Jones? Absurd,” Shlemenko told RT.
Makhachev, 31, has 25 victories with one defeat in mixed martial arts.
