A training accident disrupted the central event of the UFC’s main event of the year.
Central fight UFC 295a heavyweight title bout between the current UFC division champion Jon Jones and former champion belt holder Stipe Miocic, will not take place. The reason is a serious injury suffered by Jones in training.
It is reported that the 38-year-old American tore his tendon during training on October 23. John will now require surgery and will not be able to perform for the next eight months.
There is talk of moving the Jones-Miocic fight to 2024.
In March of this year, Jones, the youngest champion in UFC history, returned to the Octagon with a victory over Cyril Gun for the vacant heavyweight belt vacated by Francis Ngannou. 41-year-old Stipe Miocic last entered the octagon in March 2021, losing by knockout to the same Ngannou.
UFC 295 is the main tournament of the year within this sports organization. It will take place on November 11 in New York at Madison Square Garden. According to media reports, the most expensive ticket for this evening was sold for $112,236.
Following the cancellation of the aforementioned bout, the event will be headlined by a bout for the vacant light heavyweight title between former champion Jiri Prochazka and former middleweight titleholder Alex Pereira.
In addition, the organizers have added a new fight: Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich will fight for the interim heavyweight title.
