Former WBO middleweight world champion Dmitri Pirog commented on the Russian’s defeat Murata Gassieva of the Swede Otto Wallin during a boxing evening in Türkiye.
Gassiev lost to Wallin by split decision in early October. The heavyweight fight took place in Belek, Turkey.
– Very balanced battle. Among a number of those where victory can be given in one direction or the other. Whatever anyone says, boxing remains a fairly subjective sport in terms of judgment. To win with confidence, you have to win either ahead of schedule or so that no one doubts. Again I will emphasize my opinion that this could have been given in any direction. I thought they would give it to Gassiev.
Looks like Murat had a long break in his career. It should be borne in mind that the category is completely different. You just have to compete after a break, and when you change weight classes, it takes about three fights to understand who will do well. I thought the victory would go to Gassiev, but the meeting was very controversial and it is not worth saying that we were robbed. Good experience, Murat boxed the entire distance. This kind of practice is necessary after a break. It’s a useful fight if Gassiev wants to continue his career,” Pirog said according to MMA.Metaratings.ru.
Former WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion Gassiev has 30 victories (23 by KO) and two defeats. Wallin has 26 victories (14 by KO) with a defeat in September 2019 against the current WBC champion, the Briton Tyson Fury.
