In October 2022, the International Boxing Association (IBA), under the leadership of Umar Kremlev, lifted restrictions on Russian and Belarusian athletes, who now compete under their own flag and anthem. In 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the decision of the executive committee to withdraw recognition of the IBA due to the association’s failure to comply with the conditions necessary for its reinstatement. Currently, the new world boxing federation is also actively developing, to which a whole group of countries has already joined.
Tishchenko noted that at present the situation is quite stable politically. Competitions are held, Russian athletes participate in them under their own flag. However, the World Championships were not a qualifying event for the Olympics. The final decision on admission to the Olympic Games is made by the IOC. Participation in the Olympic Games is possible in a neutral status, without the use of symbols or the like. However, as Tishchenko noted, since the best Russian boxers compete for CSKA and Dynamo, their chances of getting to the Olympics are close to zero.
