The Ukrainian expects to fight with the “Gypsy King” on December 23
World champion WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO Alexander Usik commented on the fight of the WBC belt holder Tyson Fury with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
“I got the impression that he was playing. I don’t think about whether Fury was faking it, but I will train 100 percent. But listen, this is boxing. Maybe it was the element of surprise. I think it was a show. See you on December 23rd.”
“I don’t know if it gives me more confidence. Look, Ngannou is a world champion in MMA, it was a big blow. Then there is the element of surprise. Perhaps Tyson Fury didn’t take Francis seriously: “Oh, he’s an MMA fighter, blah blah blah.” I don’t know. Of course I was surprised by the knockdown.”
Fury defeated Ngannou to win the Riyadh title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
The British promoter Frank Warren said that he cannot yet name the exact date of the fight between Usyk and Fury. The Briton suffered a cut and will need time to recover. Warren confirmed that the Ukrainian will become Tyson’s next opponent.
The fight between Usik and Fury is planned to take place on December 23 or January 2024 in Saudi Arabia. It was expected that the exact date of the event would be announced after the fight of the “Gypsy King” with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
