The Briton was knocked down, but managed to win the fight with Francis Ngannou
WBC World Champion Tyson Fury commented on the victory over the former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
“It was definitely not in the script. He’s a damn good fighter. He’s a strong, powerful puncher, and he’s a much better boxer than we thought. He’s a very clumsy man and he’s a good puncher. I respect him very much, both before the fight and after it.”
“He was very awkward. He had no intention of moving forward. He stood back and waited for me to throw punches and then try to counterattack. He’s a good fighter. He gave me one of the toughest fights in the last 10 years.”
“Knockdown is part of boxing. I got hit in the head again. My legs weren’t hurt or anything. I was fine. And I returned to boxing. I don’t know how close it was. But I won, that’s all.”
Fury defeated Ngannou to win the Riyadh title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. The British promoter Frank Warren said that he cannot yet name the exact date of the fight between Usyk and Fury. The Briton suffered a cut and will need time to recover.
