According to Fury Sr., Ngannou can only score a round with a knockdown
John Furyfather of the WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Furycommented on his son’s difficult victory over the ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
“I knew Ngannou would fight. He’s a big, strong guy and can hit like a horse’s hoof. This is boxing. That’s why people pay for broadcasts, because you just don’t know how the fight will end.”
“I think Fury won unanimously. He worked behind the jab. In fact, I only give Ngannou the knockdown round. It was replayed and reworked. We’re just happy we got the win.”
“For a guy his size, it only matters one hit, right? Tyson was out of the ring for a long time. He needed ten rounds. He probably would have been better off if he won the fight in two rounds. It was a great fight, great venue. Look, you have to agree with the judges. Only what they say matters, right?”
Let us remind you that Fury defeated Ngannou and won the Riyadh champion title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. The British promoter Frank Warren said that he cannot yet name the exact date of the fight between Usyk and Fury. The Briton suffered a cut and will need time to recover. Most likely, the unification match will take place in early 2024.
