The legendary ex-champion noted that he was surprised by Francis Ngannou
Legendary former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis commented on the victory of the WBC title holder Tyson Fury over the ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
“I think Tyson Fury won. He threw a lot of punches and had a good jab. But Francis Ngannou really surprised me – he showed really good balance and patience.”
“You can tell that Ngannou was waiting for this golden opportunity and struck when Tyson lost his balance. Fury didn’t have the basics, he wasn’t 100 percent ready. It was like warming up for a big fight.”
“A lion cannot allow a shark to come into the jungle and almost defeat him. Ngannou’s stock is rising. Fury’s stock is falling due to lackluster victory,” Lewis later wrote on social media.
Fury defeated Ngannou to win the Riyadh title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
Statistically, Fury landed more accurate shots than Ngannou. Tyson had a significant advantage in using the jab; Francis was more likely to land powerful blows.
Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. Promoter Frank Warren said the Briton suffered a cut and would need time to recover. It is expected that the fight will be held no earlier than the beginning of 2024.
