Russian Muay Thai fighter Gadzhi Medzhidov won a gold medal at the World Martial Arts Games held in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
In the final of the weight category up to 91 kg, Medzhidov was supposed to meet with the representative of Ukraine Oleg Priymachov, who withdrew from the fight. A day earlier, Medzhidov and Priymachov met in the upper bracket semifinals. The representative of Ukraine won, but was injured in the fight.
The Russian fell all the way to the lower group final, where he beat American Matthew Baker and reached the overall final, where his opponent was again supposed to be Priymachov. However, due to injury, the Ukrainian could not enter the fight and Medzhidov won the tournament.
Still in Muay Thai, Russian Konstantin Shakhtarin (up to 71 kg) won gold.
Russian athletes participated in the tournament in neutral status.
