Hearn: Usyk is becoming a big favorite to fight Fury

The promoter believes that the Briton suffered a psychological blow in the fight with Francis Ngannou

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik is the favorite to fight for the undisputed heavyweight title against the WBC belt holder Tyson Fury.

“If I were Usyk or AJ, I see Ngannou dropping Fury even without a big blow. I think this guy might get hurt. Tyson looked uncomfortable and seemed scared at times during his fight with Francis Ngannou. But you have to understand that Fury was probably not motivated enough and probably wasn’t prepared enough.”

“Let’s not take anything away from Ngannou, but Fury probably took a hit mentally. His opponent, Usyk, now becomes a huge favorite in this fight. You’re going to get the best Tyson Fury in this fight.”

“When you do something stupid, like fighting a guy from the UFC, it backfires. It really affects your legacy,” the promoter said.

Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. At the same time, the ex-UFC champion knocked Tyson down in the third round, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.

The fight between Usik and Fury will take place in February 2024. The fight was scheduled for December 23, but the “Gypsy King” will not have time to prepare for this time. Fury reportedly suffered two cuts in his last fight with Ngannou.

The contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title between Usik and Fury contains a rematch clause. The clause applies to both boxers; the loser can initiate a re-fight.
