Usik: Let Fury think he can win with body shots

The Ukrainian commented on the episode in the fight with Daniel Dubois

World champion WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO Alexander Usik said he is not afraid of body shots from the WBC belt holder Tyson Fury.

“If Fury thinks he can win with body shots, that’s very good. Sometimes when you don’t have the ability to win using the rules of boxing, you try to invent clever things to win.”

“If you watch the fight with Dubois in the tape, you can see that he tried low blows more than once, and the ones that I took, he simply missed. The one we are talking about, I felt in reality. When I saw the referee stop the fight for a low blow and tell me I had up to five minutes, I took my time to recover.”

Previously, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said that Tyson knows the Ukrainian’s weaknesses. Warren believes Usyk is vulnerable to body shots. Let us remember that Warren’s promotion company represents, in particular, the interests of British heavyweight Daniel Dubois, who lost to Usyk in a scandalous fight with a low blow in August.

The fight between Usik and Fury will take place in February 2024. The fight was scheduled for December 23, but the “Gypsy King” will not have time to prepare for this time. Fury reportedly suffered two cuts in his last fight with Francis Ngannou.

The contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title between Usik and Fury contains a rematch clause. The clause applies to both boxers; the loser can initiate a re-fight.
