ONE Championship president Chatri Sityodtong has suspended trainer Medi Zatut and fighter Alaverdi Ramazanov for six months after the latter entered the ring and fought with new champion Jonathan Haggerty on Saturday in Bangkok.
At the time, Haggerty had just knocked out Fabricio Andrade in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 to win the vacant kickboxing flyweight title and become a two-fight champion.
Zatut, co-owner of the Venum training camp and former title challenger Ramazanov, bypassed security and tried to stage a dramatic showdown with the new champion.
Ramazanov, who lost by third-round TKO to former champion Nong-O Khama in January, grabbed the microphone from commentator Mitch Chilson during Haggerty’s celebration as the event, broadcast to more than 190 countries in around the world, continued to be broadcast live.
Haggerty was shocked by Ramazanov’s behavior and called him an “idiot”.
“Who the hell let him in the ring?” Haggerty told the South China Morning Post after his victory over Fabricio Andrade.
Chatri Sityodtong said the behavior of Zatut and Ramazanov was unacceptable and put the safety of everyone in the stadium at risk.
“I expect our athletes, coaches, managers and all others to behave in a professional manner towards ONE employees and respect ONE rules and regulations. Safety is our top priority,” Chatri said.
