“The final match was disappointing, but it’s still a step forward.” Taymazova’s coach on judoka’s silver medal at the European Championships

Defeat of the Russian judoka Madina Taimazova The final of the European Championship in Montpellier was disappointing, but the silver medal of the tournament can be considered a success and a step forward, the athlete’s personal coach Mikhail Rakhlin told .

In the final, the 24-year-old athlete, competing in the weight category up to 70 kg, lost to Frenchwoman Marie-Yve Gaye, who had an ippon technique. Thus, Taymazova won silver at the European Championship.

— There were some great victories in the preliminary stage, including in the semi-finals, when we managed to defeat the world champion in an instant. And before that, there were rivals to fight with. Sure, the final match was shocking, but it was still a step forward. After all, Taymazova was third at the European Championships earlier, and now she is second. I’m sure she doesn’t agree with it, she’s upset now and she’s not happy about it. But it’s still a step forward, and that’s the most important thing.

Also note that a week ago Madina fought in Abu Dhabi. And in such a short time, it was not easy to participate in two such important and serious competitions with the best judokas in the world. So, looking at it dryly, silver at the European Championships is a great success. But they expected gold and, naturally, she herself would not agree with a silver medal.

— What was missing for a gold medal? Did the difficult schedule play a role?

– Maybe yes. Maybe Madina was too slow and her opponent was a little more explosive. It was evident. When things turned into a tight, sticky fight, Madina was no worse, and even better. But in these important moments of taking control, I slept a little too much in the face of the situation. Perhaps the lack of recovery from tournament to tournament really had an effect. Yet it has physical and emotional consequences.

In any case, points were collected for the Olympic treasury, for the selection of the ranking. This is a step forward. So we have to be positive,” Rakhlin told .

Russians participate in competitions in France as neutral athletes.
