Coach Javier Mendez: “I think when Khabib’s children grow up, he will come back”

Trainer Javier Mendez, who worked with the former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov said the ex-fighter may return to the mixed martial arts industry when his children grow up.

Nurmagomedov retired from the UFC in October 2020. In total, he has 29 victories in MMA and has not suffered a single defeat. In the final fight, Nurmagomedov defeated American Justin Gaethje. In January of this year, it was announced that Nurmagomedov had left the MMA industry to spend more time with his family. Current UFC champion Islam Makhachev previously said that Nurmagomedov helped him prepare for fights.

— I believe that Khabib is a visionary, like his father (Abdulmanap). He now has other tasks: to be a good father to his children. He devotes his time to the children. He dedicates it to the fighters on his team, but not to the same extent. When you spend time on fighters, you won’t have enough time for your children, they are growing up. He doesn’t want to miss the most wonderful moment of their childhood, I don’t blame him.

I think when his kids grow up he’ll come back, but who knows when that will be. He will make the decision himself. If he comes back, everyone will have a wonderful person and a wonderful coach to help them,” Mendes said in an interview with the Red Corner MMA YouTube channel.
