Former WBA regular champion Rajab Butaev said he was not surprised by Fazliddin Gaibnazarov’s refusal to continue the fight.
On Monday in Sochi, Butaev defeated 2016 Olympic champion Gaibnazarov by technical knockout in the fourth round. The Uzbek boxer’s corner refused to continue the fight after the third segment.
-Maybe that’s my style: make my opponent work and make him give up. As you saw, I was in the lead from the first lap. Yes, I missed shots, but I didn’t feel them.
-Were you surprised that Gaibnazarov refused to continue the fight?
-No, I looked into his eyes and saw that he didn’t want to fight anymore. In general, I was just starting to work, and in a few rounds things could have been much worse for him. I saw that after my blows he was in pain.
Under no circumstances do I want a repeat of the downtime. However, these years and a half without fighting have taken their toll. I didn’t launch attacks like that, I didn’t see the situation like that. “I want to rest for two weeks, and then immediately go to my training camp,” reports the correspondent of , reporting Butaev’s words.
In his last fight in April 2022, Butaev lost by split decision to Lithuanian Eimantas Stanionis and lost his regular WBA welterweight title. Butaev now has 15 victories (12 by KO) and one defeat.
The Sochi tournament was broadcast live on the channel.
