The young heavyweight believes that the time of Alexander and Tyson is already running out
Undefeated American heavyweight Jared Anderson shared his opinion on the upcoming unification fight for the title of absolute world champion between the holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO titles Alexander Usik and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
“Personally, I think it would be great to have an undisputed champion. We haven’t had an undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis. It would be cool to have another absolute champion show us the ropes again. Do it again for the heavyweights, not just the lighter categories like welterweight or flyweight.”
“It would be great if this fight happened, but if it doesn’t happen, I won’t be upset. I think they are both great fighters and both had great careers. They’re both pretty much nearing the end of it, so unless they want to risk another loss on their record, I’m not mad at them. But I’m not their fan.”
Usyk challenged Fury to a fight after successfully defending his WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF titles against Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian’s manager, Alexander Krasyuk, recently announced that the unification fight will be held in early 2024. The reason for the transfer was the damage Fury suffered in his last fight with Ngannou.
Earlier, 23-year-old Anderson suggested that he was the only boxer along with Fury who could beat Usik.
At the end of August, Jared defeated Ukrainian Andrey Rudenko by technical knockout in the fifth round. In early July, the American defeated former world heavyweight champion Charles Martin by unanimous decision.
According to promoter Bob Arum, Anderson plans to return to the ring on the undercard of the vacant WBC lightweight title bout between Shakur Stevenson and Frank Martin. This event is scheduled for November 16 in Las Vegas (Jared’s birthday). Arum later called the Anderson vs. Dubois fight “ideal.”
