The Ukrainian will not change the training program for the fight with the Gypsy King
WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight title holder Alexander Usik stated that the final date for the unification fight with the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury should be determined next week.
“It could be February, and I would really like it to be February. “I was ready for the fight on December 23, but since Fury was injured in the last fight and was knocked down, the fight will probably be postponed to next year.”
“I’ll just do more technical work. Technically nothing will change. I’ll just have a little more time for some additional tasks, that’s all. I don’t think about Tyson Fury at all. I think about myself, about my team, about my family. I don’t need to think about my opponent. I just need to be with him, fight and that’s it.”
The fight between Usik and Fury was planned to be organized on December 23 (both the Ukrainian champion himself and his promoter Alexander Krasyuk insisted on this date), but the “Gypsy King” will not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou.
Krasyuk recently announced that the unification fight between Usyk and WBC belt holder Tyson Fury will not take place on December 23 and will be held in early 2024. The reason for the transfer was the damage Fury suffered in his last fight with Ngannou.
Note that the contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title contains a rematch clause. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, the Briton may refuse to fight the Ukrainian altogether and end his career.
On the night of October 29, Tyson defeated ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou and won the Riyadh champion title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
