The promoter insists there is no threat to the overall title fight scheduled for February
Promoter Frank Warren rejected suggestions that the WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury may retire without waiting for a unification fight with the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik.
According to journalist Michael Benson, the promoter insists that the two sides are well on their way to a fight for the title of undisputed world heavyweight champion, which is scheduled for February next year.
Earlier, Warren’s colleague Eddie Hearn suggested that the “Gypsy King” could retire after a fight with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, which was unexpectedly difficult for the Briton.
Let us remind you that on the night of October 29, Fury defeated Ngannou and won the Riyadh champion title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
The fight between Usik and Fury was planned to be organized on December 23 (both the Ukrainian champion himself and his promoter Alexander Krasyuk insist on this date), but Tyson will not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
Usyk and Fury are expected to enter the ring in February 2024. Note that the contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title contains a rematch clause.
