Former WBC world champion Wilder plans to combine boxing and MMA

Former WBC American heavyweight boxing world champion Deontay Wilder said he was considering trying mixed martial arts, but had no plans to quit boxing.

In October, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou lost by split decision to Britain’s Tyson Fury, current WBC belt holder, in a 10-round boxing match. Ngannou then said he could fight Wilder under MMA rules.

— I’m thinking of doing both UFC and boxing. I will be a dangerous competitor in the UFC with 4 ounce gloves. “I want to grab a big body and punch him, then climb on top of him and beat him up,” Wilder told the Daily Mail.

Wilder is 38 years old, in the professional ring he has won 43 victories (42 by knockout), suffered two defeats and ended one fight in a draw. In his last fight, which took place in October last year, the American knocked out Robert Helenius. From 2015 to 2020, Wilder held the WBC heavyweight belt.
