Warren: Anyone who knows boxing knows Fury deservedly beat Ngannou

The promoter called talk about the rigged nature of the fight nonsense

Promoter Frank Warren stated that the WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury deservedly defeated the former UFC champion Francis Ngannoudespite a weak, by our own standards, performance.

“We expected Tyson to handle him in the first two or three rounds and win, but the knockdown changed the fight. So now the people who dismissed this fight as a farce in advance are saying it’s a disgrace and bad for boxing that it ended in a close decision.”

“As for the so-called heist, anyone who has the slightest idea how points are calculated knows that Fury won, despite a poor performance by his high standards. And more and more people who watch the replay on TV come to this opinion.”

Previously, Warren denied talk about the rigged nature of the Fury-Ngannou fight. The promoter noted that the ex-UFC champion turned out to be a difficult opponent.

On the night of October 29 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Fury defeated Ngannou and won the Riyadh champion title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, following which Fury won by a split decision: two judges gave him the victory with scores of 95–94 and 96–93, and the third – 95–94 in favor of Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.

Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. The fight between Usik and Fury was planned to be organized on December 23 (both the Ukrainian champion himself and his promoter Alexander Krasyuk insist on this date), but Tyson will not have time to prepare for this time. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.

Usyk and Fury are expected to enter the ring in February 2024. Note that the contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title contains a rematch clause.
