The Ukrainian said he was motivated to defeat the British champion
WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik stated that he cannot guarantee that the fight for the title of absolute champion in heavyweight with the holder of the WBC belt Tyson Fury will take place in February. However, the Ukrainian said that he really wants to hold this fight.
“I’m pleased. I want everything to happen for us. I want this fight to happen. It was supposed to take place on December 23, but we saw what happened. The fact that it is portable is not a problem for me. I’m pleased.”
“Am I sure the fight will take place in February? No, I’m not one hundred percent sure. I will be confident when I step into the ring, I will be standing in one corner, Tyson Fury will be in the other, and the referee will be standing in the middle in a white shirt. When I hear the first round bell, that’s when I know the game has started.”
“He’s big, he’s complex, he’s strong. But I’m a little smaller, I’m incredibly motivated and I’m hungry for boxing. I’m not motivated by money. I am not motivated by any material things. I care about the path I’m on. I’ve been working toward this for 20 years.”
“I think there will be a gong in February. We will fight for the legacy of this century. So it’s going to be a battle between the little guy—the winner—and the big guy.”
The fight between Usik and Fury was planned to be organized on December 23, but Tyson will not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
Usyk and Fury are expected to enter the ring in February 2024. Note that the contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title contains a rematch clause.
