The fighterNick Newell, who has a congenital amputation, inspired the work “A chance to fight”. Against ableism, the athlete pursued his goals and managed to achieve victories by being dominant against several opponents in the ring.
The athlete’s left arm only developed to the height of the elbow, which left him without one of his hands. Of the 20 contests he has participated in, Newell came out on top in 16 of them. He is 1.77 tall and weighs around 70 kilos, which makes him compete in the lightweight category.
Submissions are his specialty and he has rear naked choke, armbar and guillotine choke as his favorite moves. Influenced by wrestling, Newell had to adopt a combat style adapted to the absence of his left fist.
“Honestly, everyone is facing obstacles, everyone has their adversities that they face in life, and you can see mine. So I feel like that makes me relatable to people, whether they’re two-handed, one-handed, no-handed, whatever. We are all facing something.”said the fighter in an interview with “Cage Press”, in 2021. “There’s a lot more to me than just the fact that I’m missing a hand.”
