Bellator lightweight champion Russian MMA fighter Usman Nurmagomedov suspended for six months by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) after testing positive for a banned substance, reports the Twitter journalist Ariel Helwani, quoting CSAC executive director Andy Foster.
According to him, the Russian tested positive after his fight with Brent Primus at the Bellator 300 tournament, which Nurmagomedov won by unanimous decision. After disqualification, this fight received the status of “did not take place”.
According to Foster, the fighter had a doctor’s prescription for the drug, but he did not add it to the list of therapeutic exceptions. Nurmagomedov was also fined $50,000 and placed on the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) lists. It is unclear what substance was found in the Russian’s sample.
Nurmagomedov is an undefeated fighter, he has 18 victories in 18 fights. In October, he rose to third place in Bellator’s pound-for-pound rankings.
