Russian athletes won 13 gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the World Sambo Championships held in Yerevan.
World champions were Sayan Khertek (weight category up to 58 kg), Vladimir Leontyev (up to 64 kg), Ramid Gukev (up to 71 kg), Anton Konovalov (up to 98 kg), Artem Osipenko (over 98 kg), Elmira Kahramanova (up to 54 kg), Ksenia Zadornova (up to 72 kg), in combat sambo – Mukhtar Gamzaev (up to 58 kg), Sheikh-Mansur Khabibulaev (up to 64 kg), Rustam Taldiev (up to 71 kg), Zagid Gaidarov (up to 79 kg), Said Saidov (up to 88 kg), Mikhail Kashurnikov (over 98 kg).
Silver went to Abdulkhalim Dzhavatnakhov (combat sambo, weight category up to 98 kg) and Zhanara Kusanova (over 80 kg). The bronze medalists were Vladislav Burd (up to 58 kg), Svetlana Uvarova (up to 59 kg) and Daria Rechkalova (up to 80 kg).
Sambo wrestlers from Uzbekistan have two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, the Kazakhstan team has 8 medals (1, 2, 5).
Russian, Belarusian and French athletes participated in the tournament in neutral status.
