Matytsin congratulated Russian sambo wrestlers on their performance at the World Championships in Yerevan

Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin congratulated Russian sambo wrestlers for winning medals at the World Championships in Yerevan.

Russian athletes won 13 gold, two silver and three bronze medals and took first place in the team event.

— I am happy to congratulate the Russian winners and prize-winners of the World Sambo Championship which ended in Yerevan. Our athletes have traditionally performed successfully, winning 18 medals, including 13 gold. For the famous Russian sambo wrestler Artem Osipenko, this is the tenth victory in his career at the World Championships. Artem Osipenko is an example for thousands of children involved in sambo sections in different regions of Russia, and especially in his hometown of Bryansk, in the new sports complex that bears his name. The participation of our athletes in world-class tournaments is an opportunity to maintain physical fitness and demonstrate great achievements.

The victories of Russian sambo wrestlers at the World Championships are a gift for all sambo fans on the eve of the 85th anniversary of our national sport, which will be celebrated on November 16. “I thank all athletes, coaches and the All-Russian Sambo Federation for their contribution to the development and popularization of this sport,” Matytsin was quoted as saying by the press service of the Ministry of Sports.

The World Sambo Championships took place in Yerevan from November 10 to 12. Russian athletes participated in the tournament in neutral status.
