UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev awarded the Order of Honor of the Republic of Dagestan, III degree, reports the press service of the administration of the head of the region.
The corresponding decree was signed by the head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov.
Makhachev was awarded for his services in the field of physical culture and sports and for high-level sporting achievements. By the same decree, Melikov awarded Makhachev’s coach, Muslim Amiraslanov, with an honorary diploma of the republic.
On October 21 in Abu Dhabi, Makhachev defeated Australian Alexander Volkanovski by knockout in the first round. On November 7, the Russian topped the ranking of the promotion’s best fighters, regardless of weight category.
