Deputy General Director of Gazprom-Media Holding Tina Kandelaki believes that the president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev will play a key role in lifting sanctions against Russian sports.
On Wednesday, the Kremlin met with Pope Francis at the Vatican, where they discussed the power of sport and also emphasized the unity of religions and nationalities.
“My friend and comrade Umar, of course, is an extraordinary person. Just look at this photo. No, it’s not Photoshop. The president of the International Boxing Association shakes the Pope’s hand with a smile on his face. And this meeting is the most valuable proof of the professionalism of a true negotiator.
I am sure that in a few years, Umar’s name will appear in every possible national communications and public relations textbook as a phenomenal example of working in the era of strict Western sanctions. After all, he has done more for our country than many people in high office who are responsible for making those same connections.
My friends, believe me, the story with the Pope is far from the limit. It is Umar who will play a key role in lifting sanctions against Russian sport. And not because he has to, but because he sincerely wants to. Such pure responsibility towards one’s business is a unique quality in the modern world, – Kandelaki wrote on his Telegram channel .
At the end of March, the IOC announced recommendations regarding the individual admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include a neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
