President of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev said the organization could appeal to the Swiss Federal Court if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejects its appeal against the International Olympic Committee’s decision (CIO ) concerning the deprivation of recognition of IBA.
In June, the IOC accepted the recommendation of the organization’s executive committee not to return recognition to the IBA, as the association had not fulfilled the necessary conditions put forward in December 2021. The IOC executive board also recommended to the session “in the interest of athletes and sport” that boxing be kept on the program of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in accordance with previous decisions. At the same time, the world boxing organization was created, which already included a number of countries.
— We have lawyers dealing with this matter. We support boxers and organize tournaments. We believe the decision was unfair. We will defend our rights. If we lose at CAS, there is the Swiss Federal Court, to which we can appeal,” Kremlev said at a press conference.
The CAS hearing on the IBA appeal will take place on Thursday.
