President of Russia Vladimir Poutine sent a congratulatory telegram to the participants and organizers of Sambo Day.
On Thursday, Russia celebrates Sambo Day for the first time. This sport was recognized in the country on November 16, 1938, when the All-Union Committee for Physical Culture and Sports issued Order No. 633 “On the development of freestyle wrestling (sambo)”.
– Dear friends! I congratulate you on Sambo Day, which is officially celebrated for the first time this year, and on the 85th anniversary of the recognition of Sambo as a sport in our country.
This anniversary is a good opportunity to remember many generations of outstanding compatriots, athletes, coaches, sports organizers, all those whose work and talent created conditions for the development of this unique type of Martial Arts. Thanks to the wonderful traditions they established, we implement large-scale popular projects aimed at promoting the values of physical culture and a healthy lifestyle. One of them is Sambo Day, which previously took place on the initiative and with the support of the athletes and enthusiasts themselves.
I am convinced that the large-scale celebration of this event will contribute to the popularization of this martial art, the involvement of people of different ages, young people and the harmonious education of the younger generation in its orbit. “I wish you all success and brilliant impressions,” the head of state said in his congratulations published on the Kremlin website.
Live broadcasts of sambo tournaments can be seen on and Match! Fighter”, as well as on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
