Aspinall rules out waiting for Jon Jones to recover

Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall ruled out the possibility of waiting for Jon Jones before the next fight, and put forward another alternative

After injury to Jon Jones, it seems that the UFC has found another problem for the continuation of the heavyweight category. This because Tom Aspinall he became interim champion and does not intend to wait for ‘Bones’ to recover before returning to the Octagon to defend the belt he won.

Given this, in an interview with the “Fight Disciples” podcast, the Englishman stated what he thinks if the organization takes too long to offer the next fight: “Let’s do this (boxing). I want to be active in MMA, I’m healthy. I’m definitely going to do it, if I can get this through the UFC, I’ll do it. That’s why I think it’s a good idea. I like her, I like her a lot. I’ll do it if they want me to. But I want to be active.”

Following the response, Aspinall also assured that he did not want to wait for Jon Jones to recover, reaffirming that he will ask the UFC to hold a boxing fight, if they really want to wait for the linear champion to return. It is worth remembering that the American had a scheduled fight against Miocic before getting hurt.

I had a year off with the knee injury. I came back and, I have to say, I’ve done really well in both (fights) since then. I’m in a really good position now, let’s keep moving. I don’t want to wait for Jon Jones. Who knows if he’ll come back or not? I’ll fight another competitor, or we’ll do one of them. That’s a great idea“, he added.

The Englishman’s impatience is nothing new for the organization, which has already heard him speak on the subject after winning his interim belt. On that occasion, after beating Pavlovich at UFC 295, Aspinall asked that Jones be stripped of the title, still accusing the company of protecting the current champion of the category.
